Israel silences journalists by attacking state broadcaster
The attack occurred while IRINN was airing a live broadcast. Footage shared by both Iranian and Israeli sources captured the moment when anchor Sahar Emami was forced to halt her reporting due to the impact. Debris and dust filled the studio, and the lights went out following the sound of an explosion.
According to reports, at least four bombs hit the Political Affairs Office of the broadcaster, which operates under the Iranian Broadcasting Agency (IRIB). Images from the aftermath show the building engulfed in flames, with thick black smoke rising from the site.
Despite the damage, IRIB claimed the channel resumed broadcasting just minutes after the strike. No fatalities or injuries have been confirmed so far, and anchor Sahar Emami was reported unharmed. She later denounced the attack and criticized the global community’s silence, saying it allowed “the silencing of journalists.”
The Israel Defense Forces confirmed targeting the facility, asserting it was being used by the Iranian military under the cover of civilian media infrastructure. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that the broadcaster was a deliberate target, declaring, “Iranian propaganda and incitement mouthpiece is on its way to disappearing.”
In response, Tehran labeled the bombing of the media office a “war crime.” Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei urged the UN Security Council to act immediately “to stop the genocidal aggressor from committing further atrocities against our people.”
The Committee to Protect Journalists also condemned the incident, expressing shock at the targeting of a media outlet. “This bloodshed must end now,” the organization said in a statement.
