Animal Wellness Urges U.S. Territories to Wind Down Cockfighting, As Upgraded Anti-Fighting Law Soon Becomes Effective

Cockfighting Match

U.S. Department of Justice Affirms That Cockfighting Is Unambiguously Outlawed in All Five U.S. Territories

The rule of law is a sacred doctrine in the United States.”

— Drew Edmondson

WASHINGTON, DC, USA, October 16, 2019 / — Top officials at Animal Wellness Action and the Animal Wellness Foundation urged the governors and other top elected leaders of American Samoa, Guam, Northern Marianas Islands, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands to signal to the community of cockfighting enthusiasts that they must cease their staged fights and related activities, including organizing derbies, staging fights, raising birds for fighting, selling animals for fighting, or attending these spectacles.

“The United States has the authority to outlaw staged animal fights in the U.S. Territories, and it has done so,” said Drew Edmondson, the former four-term Attorney General of Oklahoma and co-chair of the Animal Wellness National Law Enforcement Council. “The Congress, the Federal Courts, and the U.S. Department of Justice have been crystal clear on the matter: engage in animal fighting activities and go to prison. All of our political leaders need to remind their constituents of these legal realities.”

Edmondson was attorney general when Oklahoma voters banned cockfighting in 2002. That same year, the Congress upgraded the federal law against animal fighting, banning any interstate or foreign commerce in the animals for fighting. As such, Edmondson has experience in helping Oklahoma transition from a hotbed of cockfighting to a jurisdiction that explicitly outlawed the practice.

“The cockfighting community in Oklahoma challenged our state law and they made efforts to challenge federal law without success,” added Edmondson. “As with both the states and the territories, Congress has the power to outlaw this conduct and exercised that authority in upgrading the law five times in the last 17 years.” All federal legal actions to invalidate the statute have failed.

In recent months, a number of cockfighting practitioners and a business named Club Gallistico de Puerto Rico, sued the federal government some months ago and argued that Section 26 of the Animal Welfare Act forbidding animal fighting is unconstitutional as applied to the territories. The U.S. Department of Justice filed a brief in response earlier this month, emphatically arguing that most animal fighting activities are already illegal in the territories and the upgrade of the law, set to take effect on December 20th, simply builds on the roster of prohibited activities. “Just as courts have unanimously affirmed the ability of the federal government to restrict animal fighting in the fifty states, so too may it do so with respect to the territories.”

According to the Department of Justice in its pleadings, the upgrade in the law stipulated that cockfighters “may not sponsor or exhibit cockfights, just as prior to §12616 they were prohibited from attending cockfights, possessing game cocks, or engaging in other animal fighting practices that were prohibited both in Puerto Rico and nationwide.”

Animal Wellness Action founder Wayne Pacelle recently traveled to Guam and was able to walk into a cockfight in progress, with about 150 people in attendance. “Between now and December 20th, it’s critical that they get the message by December 20th that staging fights, attending fighting, shipping birds or fighting paraphernalia, and even possessing fighting birds are federal felonies,” added Pacelle. “There’s no ‘Get-Out-of-Jail-Free’ card for cockfighters and other perpetrators of malicious cruelty to animals.” Pacelle called on the leaders of all the U.S. territories to affirm in a public way that the law, including the federal law against animal fighting, must be observed.

“The rule of law is a sacred doctrine in the United States,” added Edmondson, speaking on behalf of the 25-member Animal Wellness National Law Enforcement Council. “Defying our laws against animal cruelty is not tolerable, and we’ll be working hard to see that the law speaks in every part of the United States, including the Territories.”

Nakibul Ghani Ahsan and Jung Ching Hsiau at the Louvre Paris.

Art of Nakibul Ghani Ahsan

Art of Jung Ching Hsiau

PARIS, FRANCE, October 16, 2019 / — The French art market has been one of the most important art markets worldwide for ages.
Artists like Pablo Picasso, Vincent van Gogh, Marc Chagall, Modigliani had their studios in Paris and created their works in the fascination of Paris.
The French art market, especially in Paris, attracts international art collectors. The biggest art fair in France, "Fiac", takes place in October. During this time, other art fairs in Paris attract art collectors and art lovers magically. The PAKS Gallery from Austria presents selected artists from many countries in the Carrousel du Louvre.
„Contemporary art is one of the strongest internal expressions and also serves as a barometer of mood in a modern society. In times of social change, political differences of opinion and digitization, the importance of artistic freedom of expression as well as the artistic perspective of society with all its characteristics is increasing. Therefore, it was important for me to show a wide range of art from many countries in this exhibition“ – says director of PAKS Gallery Heinz Playner. For the exhibition at the contemporary art fair in the Carrousel du Louvre, he has selected from among thousands of artists around the world 48 artists and will be showing their art from 18 to 20 October at the Louvre in Paris.

One of the selected artists for the exhibition is Nakibul Ghani Ahsan from the USA. His characteristic works of art, which bind him especially to his country of origin India and thus get a very interesting expression, will be on display in the Paris Louvre. His life journey took him from India through London to New York. Today, Nakibul Ghani Ahsan lives and paints in his studio in New York and is present worldwide with his art.

Kaligraphs by JungChing Hsiau from Taiwan were also selected. His works of art are a form of communication between the sheet and the hand expressing his inner world. Despite the minimalist concept, the works seem fascinating and limitless. His works have been shown in many international exhibitions from Shanghai, Beijing to Fine Art Biennale Basel and can now be seen and bought at the art fair in Carrousel du Louvre.

The exhibition will be shown at booth D1 / PAKS Gallery at the contemporary art fair in the Carrousel du Louvre Paris from 18 to 20 October 2019.

Mind Commerce seeks Comments regarding Financial Impact of Unwanted Robocalls upon Legitimate Business Customer Contact

Missed Customer Contact

Should She Answer

Firm seeks to Identify Impact of Consumers not Answering Business Calls

How are Unwanted Robocalls impacting your Customer Contact Operations?”

— Mind Commerce

SEATTLE, WASHINGTON, UNITED STATES, October 16, 2019 / — Leading ICT research and consulting company, Mind Commerce, is conducting a study to assess the impact of unwanted robocalls upon consumer behavior. The company is seeking comment from leading customer contact and enterprise organizations to quantify the negative impact of consumers not answering calls from legitimate businesses.

Mind Commerce sees an industry need to balance the mitigation of unwanted robocall with the desire for legitimate business calls to be answered by consumers. The primary goal of this study is to assess the impact of unwanted calls upon consumer behavior relative to consumers not answering calls initiated from ethical, law-abiding businesses.

Contact Mind Commerce to support the study at:

Initial findings indicate a wide ranging impact from less than $100 for retail service related calls to over one thousand dollars per missed customer engagement involving higher valued goods and services. Calls are typically not answered by consumers for three primary reasons: (1) An unrecognized number that is not in address book, (2) consumer use of solutions that send all calls not in address book automatically to voicemail, and (3) robocall applications that erroneously indicate a legitimate business call as problematic, which is also referred to as a false positive.

As part of the study, Mind Commerce is accepting confidential responses in conjunction with signing a Non-disclosure Agreement as a binding agreement to not disclose company-specific information. This is in concert with Mind Commerce plans to only report results in an anonymous manner.

At the conclusion of the study, Mind Commerce will only disclose anonymized results, citing overall averages and by contact type and industry. The intent is that this information will assist the communications industry to optimize unwanted call management solutions.

Vantage Agora, Inc. is now doing business as (D.B.A.) EOX Vantage.

The re-branding was really exciting because my company’s been using the services side, but to hear about the Enterprise Operating System, I’m really excited to get on, demo and find out more.”

— Tara McKendry – Director, Resource Center at JMI Reports

BEACHWOOD, OHIO, UNITED STATES, October 16, 2019 / — CLEVELAND, OHIO, UNITED STATES, October 16, 2019: Big changes are propelling a newly reinvented product company to new heights. The company once known to many as “Vantage Agora” recently announced they will be doing business as (D.B.A.) EOX Vantage, effective September 22, 2019.

The company announced their re-brand at their 2019 Inspire Innovation conference, where they also launched version 3.0 of their Enterprise Operating System. The conference proved to be a success in more ways than one. Tara McKendry of JMI Reports, stated, “The re-branding that was presented today was really exciting because my company’s been using the services side, but to hear about the Enterprise Operating System, I’m really excited to get on, demo and find out more.”

A customer-centric approach to doing business was the driving force behind the re-brand to become a product company with a services arm. The team is confident that the change will drive increased value and ensure long-term sustainability.
The name change reflects the company’s future innovations and goals, as well as its current success and growth. EOX Vantage is amplifying business efficiencies by leveraging their world-class Enterprise Operating System, while still providing the same premium Managed Services they’ve become known for.

The new name is derived from two parts: ‘EOX’ is an abbreviation for enterprise operating system and ‘Vantage’ stems from the company’s former name, “Vantage Agora”, meaning a good view and an advantage in the marketplace. EOX Vantage’s name perfectly depicts what the company offers – visibility and control – into all areas of an organization.

EOX Vantage CEO Sudhir Achar states, “There are a lot of changes, but we’re still the same great company delivering innovative products and services with a relentless focus on our clients. Our new company name, logo, positioning, tagline and mission statement are reflective of our exciting future direction.”

About EOX Vantage: At EOX Vantage, our goal is to deliver premier service with insights that boost overall operations. Clients choose EOX Vantage products and services to improve their operational efficiencies through direct assistance from the managed services team, and by leveraging the customized Enterprise Operating System. We are at the cusp of a great movement. For the first time civil society and governments alike in the US and around world are standing together to right these wrongs. This is the good news!”

— Rev. Susan Taylor

WASHINGTON, DC, USA, October 16, 2019 / — The Church of Scientology bestowed its annual humanitarian awards during the celebration of the seventh anniversary of its National Affairs Office in Washington, DC. Five human rights groups comprising the Coalition to Advance Religious Freedom in China working group were presented humanitarian awards in honor of their service in working to solve some of humanity’s most challenging problems. Dr. Joseph L. Green, Jr., Chairman of the Congressional Commission on the 400 Years of African American History was awarded for his leadership in achieving the purpose of the Commission to observe this important American milestone.

Commissioner Kristina Arriaga, of the US Commission on International Religious Freedom spoke about her passion for religious freedom and the need to support groups working to expose abuses of those freedoms around the world. Ms. Arriaga spoke about the courage needed by these awardees to speak up despite threats to their families, themselves, and their livelihoods. In addition to her work on the Commission, she has served as Advisor to the US delegation to the United Nations Human Rights Commission and appointee to the Civil Rights Commission,

The subject of International Religious Freedom has been highlighted in the media lately but many are not aware of its worldwide impact and how the support of religious freedom will bring about more peace, economic growth, and national security.

Each of the organizations honored have members who are suffering abuses in China such as arrests, detentions, confinement in “re-education” camps, and having their children taken away. Some have been able to escape to various countries including the United States and raise the alarm.

Awardees were:

The Uyghur Human Rights Project, accepted by Omer Kanat, Director of the Uyghur Human Rights Project. Mr. Kanat talked about the approximately two million members of the Uyghur ethnic group, primarily Muslims, who are detained in “re-education” camps. Their children are often taken and put into separate children’s camps to indoctrinate them into the Chinese Communist Party.

China Aid, accepted by Logan Carmichael, Director of Advocacy for China Aid and the Chair of the Coalition to Advance Religious Freedom in China. Ms. Carmichael spoke about their work in supporting Christians and minorities in China. Many Christian “house churches” are closed and the pastors are arrested for “holding an illegal meeting” and usually jailed.

Church of Almighty God, accepted by Ms. Shirley Fan, an escaped Chinese member. This church may be new but they have millions of members in China and around the world and seek to be able to exist and practice their faith. Many of their members have been jailed for attending their church.

Citizen Power Initiatives for China, accepted by Mr. Jianli Yang, President of Citizen Power Initiatives for China. Mr. Yang spoke about their work to promote democracy in China and support those imprisoned for their religious beliefs in China.

The Falun Dafa Association of Washington, DC, accepted by Mr. Sean Lin. Mr. Lin is the Director of Communications and told the crowd about the hundreds of Falun Gong practitioners who have been jailed, tortured, and/or died in prison solely due to their spiritual practices and beliefs.

Dr. Joseph L. Green, Jr. was awarded for his work to bring to light the long history of resilience and cultural contributions from the African-American community, as well as the unvarnished truth about slavery and discrimination.

Dr. Green is the Chairman of the Congressional Commission on the 400 years of African American History. The Commission brings to light the legacy of African Americans starting all the way back in 1619 when the first Africans landed in the British colony of Jamestown. Records of the time show a group of enslaved Africans arrived as property in Port Comfort, Virginia, now the Fort Monroe National Monument, starting the long and often uncomfortable history of African Americans.

The 15-member commission was established on January 8, 2018, to coordinate the 400th anniversary of the arrival of the first enslaved Africans in the English colonies. The commission includes Mr. Lonnie G. Bunch III, Founding Director of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture and current Secretary of the Smithsonian Institute.

Dr. Green has spoken at the United Nations, at the US Capitol, and at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Annual Legislative Conference among many other actions to raise awareness of this important and historic milestone.

During the ceremony, Rev. Susan Taylor from the Church of Scientology said, “We are at the cusp of a great movement. For the first time civil society and governments alike in the US and around world are standing together to right these wrongs. This is incredible. This is the good news!”

Inspired by the words of humanitarian, L. Ron Hubbard, “A being is only as valuable as he can serve others,” these awards recognize exemplary leadership and achievement in the humanitarian sector. Beth Akiyama, the Executive Director of the Church of Scientology National Affairs Office said, “These individuals have each demonstrated that each individual can make a difference and that working together, we can overcome the seemingly insurmountable challenges facing us today in a world with too much violence, suffering, and injustice and bring about a better world.” Each of the awardees has spent years working for individual rights and protections.

The National Affairs office works with other faith-based and community programs on public policy issues which promote more individual rights and on promoting religious freedom – as well as delivering drug education, human rights education and criminal reform education lectures throughout the DC Metropolitan area.

The office is housed in the Fraser Mansion, which was acquired by the Church of Scientology in 1994 to serve as the home to the Church of Scientology of Washington, DC, now located in expanded quarters on 16th Street Northwest’s historic Church Row. The mansion, dating from 1890, is a nationally registered historic landmark. Under the Church’s custodianship, the combination Beaux-Arts, Renaissance and Romanesque building was meticulously restored to its original glory, including the completion this summer of a major historic renovation of its roof. Fraser Mansion also stands just two blocks from the history Founding Church of Scientology at 1812 19th Street NW, established in 1955 by Founder L. Ron Hubbard.
