Ethiopian Airlines Refutes the Wrong Reportings

ADDIS ABABA, ETHIOPIA, March 25, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — Ethiopian Airlines would like to refute the following wrong reporting of the New York Times titled “Ethiopian Airlines Had a Max 8 Simulator, but Pilot on Doomed Flight Didn’t Receive Training”.

Ethiopian Airlines, one of the safest and most dependable airlines in the world, is pleased to confirm that Ethiopian pilots have completed the Boeing recommended and FAA approved differences training from the B-737 NG aircraft to the B-737 MAX aircraft before the phase in of the B-737-800 MAX fleet to the Ethiopian operation and before they start flying the B-737-800 MAX.

The pilots had also been made aware of, and were well briefed on the Emergency Airworthiness Directive issued by the FAA following the Lion Air accident. The content of the airworthiness directive has also been well incorporated in all pilot training manuals, operational procedures and working manuals.

The B-737 MAX full flight simulators is not designed to simulate the Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System (MCAS) problems.

Ethiopian Airlines urges all concerned to refrain from making uninformed, incorrect, irresponsible and misleading statements during the period of the accident investigation. International regulations require all stakeholders to wait patiently for the final result of the investigation.

Our 51st anniversary sale reflects a range of styles and art movements that dominated American and European tastes in the 19th and 20th centuries, and continue to inform our visual cultural experience”

— Bruce Wood

FRANKLIN, MA, UNITED STATES, March 25, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — An exclusive selection of antique and modern paintings and drawings, to include a rare figural oil painting by the renowned American artist James McNeill Whistler (1834-1903), titled Peasant Woman (1880), will be offered in a 51st Anniversary Art Auction planned for Thursday, April 4th, by Woodshed Art Auctions, starting at 5:30 pm Eastern time.

The auction commemorates Woodshed Art Auctions’ 51st year in business (Woodshed Gallery was founded in 1968). It will be held online and live in the 500 Gallery, at 475 Franklin Village Drive in Franklin. People can register and bid now, at www.woodshedartauctions.com. Previews will be held Wednesdays-thru-Fridays from 10-5, and Saturdays from 10-3, on up to auction day.

“Our 51st anniversary catalogue reflects a range of styles and art movements that dominated American and European tastes in the 19th and 20th centuries, and continue to inform our visual cultural experience,” said Bruce Wood, the owner of Woodshed Art Auctions. “Many of these works may enrich the imaginations of new generations as we head into our next demi-century.”

The figural oil painting by Whistler is the sale’s undisputed headliner but also featured will be a wide selection of paintings by, and attributed to, artists such as Andy Warhol, Philip Guston, Cy Twombly, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Franz Kline, Mark Rothko, Stuart Davis, Man Ray, Serge Poliakoff, Miguel Covarrubias and even Dr. Seuss. Phone and absentee bids will be accepted.

Whistler’s Peasant Woman is unsigned, but comes with impeccable provenance. The piece was gifted to a Mr. Ritter, an acquaintance of Whistler’s in Venice, by the artist in 1880. Ritter sold it to Robert Day Andrews around 1892 and Day then donated it to the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. It was later deaccessioned by the museum and acquired by the current owners in 1994.

What makes the piece so attractive to collectors (aside from the fact that any original work by Whistler is bound to attract attention) is that it was painted in Venice, during a time when the vast majority of the artist’s work consisted of etchings and pastel and chalk drawings. This was by necessity, as Whistler was nearly destitute. An oil painting by him from the era is very rare.

After the publication of John Riskin’s acclaimed book, Stones of Venice, many notable artists – to include Whistler – flocked to the Italian city to capture the splendor of which Ruskin wrote. But Whistler eschewed the city’s Gothic architecture that his contemporaries captured on canvas in favor of the city’s poverty-stricken areas, which he referred to as “the Venice of Venetians.”

Many of Whistler’s subjects were women at work – almost always placed within their familiar, local environment, engaged in mundane activities like doing the wash or stringing beads. He sought to depict the true aesthetic nature of the city (and in doing so he gained many pupils). Portrait of a Girl is a fine representation of this time. It’s estimated to bring $200,000-$300,000.

Andy Warhol (American, 1928-1987) will make multiple appearances in the auction. Works attributed to the Pop Art icon will include a crayon sketch on thin tan paper of Chinese leader Chairman Mao (1975), signed and dated under the unframed image (est. $80,000-$120,000); and a mixed media painting, Siberian Tiger (1983), verso signed and framed (est. $25,000-$35,000).

Another painting with the potential to soar to six figures is the oil on canvas attributed to New York School artist Philip Guston (American, 1912-1980), titled Smoking Head with Plant, signed lower right (est. $80,000-$100,000). Also, an oil on illustration board attributed to Stuart Davis (American, 1892-1964), titled Champion, artist signed and framed, should hit $20,000-$30,000.

A 1958 Color Field Painting by Mark Rothko (1903-1970), an American artist of Russian Jewish descent, housed in a frame measuring 41 ½ inches by 53 ½ inches, should command $60,000-$80,000. Also, an acrylic and ink on canvas attributed to Cy Twombly (American, 1928-2011), titled West Germany, signed and dated (’89) and in a frame, should hammer for $8,000-$12,000.

An acrylic on canvas attributed to Jean-Michel Basquiat (American, 1960-1988), titled Beast, with the artist’s trademark crown signature verso and in a 33 inch by 48 ½ inch frame, has an estimate of $20,000-$30,000; while an oil on two-ply illustration board attributed to Miguel Covarrubias (Mexican, 1904-1957), titled Jazz Scene, is expected to realize $30,000-$35,000.

Two abstract compositions are certain to attract keen bidder interest. One is done in the manner of the Russian-French artist Serge Poliakoff (1900-1969) and is artist signed and in a 15 ¾ inch by 19 ¾ inch frame (est. $8,000-$12,000). The other is attributed to Franz Kline (American, 1910-1962) and is also signed and framed (est. $6,000-$8,000). Both are oil on canvas works.

A whimsical mixed media on paper attributed to Theodor Seuss Geisel (also known as American artist Dr. Seuss, 1904-1991), titled A Plethora of Fish, signed bottom right and unframed, carries an estimate of $10,000-$12,000. Also, a black ink on paper drawing attributed to Man Ray (American, 1890-1976), titled Surreal Woman/Hand (1917), signed, should make $3,000-$5,000.

Rhino Shield Jacksonville offers a behind the scenes look at operations

Rhino Shield Jacksonville

Ceramic coating business Rhino Shield of Jacksonville shares a brief history and a behind the scenes look at its premium wall coating system.

JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA, USA, March 25, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — First established in 2000 and now a recognized leader in America's premium wall coating industry, Rhino Shield has enjoyed both impressive and consistent year-on-year growth since its inception almost two decades ago.

"With many home improvement businesses, it's 'here today and gone tomorrow,'" suggests Rick Mariano, owner of Rhino Shield Jacksonville, "yet with us, that's simply not the case, as reflected in the company's impressive history."

"Almost 20 years ago, there was one simple goal when founding the company," Mariano continues, "which was to provide the most durable and long-lasting ceramic wall coating product on the market, capable of once-and-for-all ending the traditional cycle of painting and repainting."

Investing over a year into painstaking research, Rhino Shield's team ascertained that ceramics offered the key to providing not only durability and solar ray reflectivity, but additional breathe ability, too. "It was found that breathe ability was the crucial characteristic required for Rhino Shield to be able to pridefully and reliably guarantee the durability of the product," explains Rhino Shield Jacksonville owner Mariano.

Consulting with top chemists and manufacturing partners, intensive product development began in earnest. "A year later, the Rhino Shield system was born," adds Mariano. The finished product, he says, utilizes cutting-edge elastomeric ceramic technology, thoroughly field tested and proven highly effective in terms of both durability and insulation by leading independent laboratories.

Furthermore, a key element of the system's successful business model, suggests Mariano, speaking from Rhino Shield of Jacksonville's base on the northeastern Florida city's Western Way, is its network of certified applicators. "Many apply," he points out, "yet few are accepted, and all have significant prior professional home improvement experience in either the coating or paint industry."

A testament to operations at the company, Rhino Shield Jacksonville is A-rated with the nonprofit Better Business Bureau whose mission is to focus on advancing marketplace trust throughout the United States. "Businesses such as ourselves who are rated by the Better Business Bureau are bound to adhere to its impeccable standards," adds Mariano of the firm's commitment to the bureau's mission, and whose motto proudly states 'Start With Trust.'

"To guide our business at Rhino Shield Jacksonville," he continues, "we subscribe to a straightforward set of values."

These, says the owner, are unquestioned integrity and honesty, superior ongoing innovation, and a commitment to both the very highest quality product and best-in-class customer service. "Accordingly, and thanks to a relentless focus on product development and rigorous attention to detail, we're confident that clients will find the Rhino Shield system to be the stand out choice for protecting their homes or businesses from destructive outside elements."

"Choose Rhino Shield Jacksonville," he adds, wrapping up, "and never paint again!"

THE AFRICAN DIASPORA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
CELEBRATES WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH

“No Shade” directed by Clare Anyiam-Osigwe

Part of ADIFF Music and Society Film Series

“Mary Lou Williams: The Lady Who Swings The Band” director Carol Bash will be hosting Q&A after film screening

ADIFF Women’s History Month Program will be playing from Friday, March 29 – Sunday, March 31, 2019 at Teachers College, Columbia University – 525 W 120th St.

Described by film critic Armond White as “a festival that symbolizes diaspora as more than just anthropology,” ADIFF has managed to increase the presence of independent Afrocentric films”

— African Diaspora International Film Festival

NEW YORK , NEW YORK, UNITED STATES, March 25, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — The African Diaspora International Film Festival Women’s History Month celebration is a modest homage to women who, behind the camera, have told stories seldom told with the intention of changing or correcting a male defined narrative that is so often incomplete. Their work is a revolutionary endeavor that goes against many taboos that have silenced women’s voices for centuries. Haiti, Guadeloupe, Chad, Senegal, the UK, US, Tunisia, are the countries of origin of these women filmmakers whose work is a song to the imagination and creativity of women.

Highlighting the program is the presentation of No Shade directed by Award-winning dermatologist turned first-time filmmaker Clare Anyiam-Osigwe. Told through the prism of love, relationships, dating and marriage, No Shade is a romantic comedy-drama that provides a raw perspective on the issue of colorism. The film scooped the 2018 New York African Diaspora International Film Festival Public Award for Best Film Directed by a Woman of Color. The drama explores the hardships of the modern dating world through the dysmorphic presence of colorism as well as the fetishization of black women.

Celebrating African-American artists is the program Black Divas: Josephine Baker & Mary Lou Williams. Josephine Baker: Black Diva in a White Man's World by Annette von Wangenhei celebrates the artist, the woman and the activist and Mary Lou Williams: The Lady Who Swings the Band is about the leading musical innovator determined to create in a world that only saw her race or gender. There will be a discussion with Carol Bash, director of the Mary Lou Williams documentary after the screening of both films on Sunday, March 31 @ 4PM.

Other artists celebrated in the program are Joseph Boulogne, Le Chevalier de Saint-Georges (1745-1799) who was born in Guadeloupe of a Senegalese enslaved woman and a French nobleman and who became one of the most remarkable figures of the 18th century as outlined in the documentary Black Mozart in Cuba by Stephanie and Steve James. Teddy Pendergrass: If You Don’t Know Me by Olivia Lichtenstein is an entertaining and moving musical documentary that explores the rise of Teddy Pendergrass, the first African American artist to record five consecutive platinum albums against the backdrop of 1960s America, and his comeback after a life-changing accident.

African women are telling powerful stories behind the camera. BAFTA-award winning director Rungano Nyoni’s debut film, I Am Not a Witch, set in modern-day Zambia, is the satirical, provocative, and enchanting African tale of a young girl accused of being a witch. I Am Not a Witch was the official UK submission to the 2019 Oscar race in the Foreign Language Film category. Seeking refuge from her Islamist radical brother whom she informed on, a young woman arrives in France illegally following Tunisia’s Jasmine Revolution and discovers a new world of both hope and danger, in Foreign Body the fourth feature film by Tunisian writer-director Raja Amari (Satin Rouge, Buried Secrets). The program African Women Directors features the work of African women filmmakers Zara M. Yacoub (Chad) & Khady Sylla (Senegal) who address issues of abuse and mutilation of children and women in Africa in their films Feminine Dilemma and The Silent Monologue.

ADIFF Women’s History Month Program will open on March 29 with a FREE screening of Looking for Life by Haitian filmmaker Claudette Coulanges, a documentary about resourcefulness in the face of poverty and globalization, which introduces the viewer to two women, Anne-Rose and Rosemene, who each one has their own particular way of battling through life. The program also features a Q&A with director Yoruba Richen who will discuss her documentary The Green Book: Guide to Freedom, the real story of the Green Book, the guide that changed how black people traveled in America.

ADIFF Women’s History Month Program will be at Teachers College, Columbia University – 525 W 120th St. Tickets are $11 and $13. Weekend Pass is $50.

Joylux Named One of the Top Three Most Innovative Companies by Angel Capital Association

Joylux to be honored at the Angel Capital Association's 2019 Summit as a top-three finalist for the prestigious Luis Villalobos Award

SEATTLE , WASHINGTON, USA, March 25, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — Seattle, WA — March 25, 2019. Joylux, a leading FemTech company using high-tech solutions to improve vaginal health for postpartum and menopausal women, has been named one of the top three most ingenious and innovative companies funded by Angel Capital Association (ACA) members, a membership of 14,000+ accredited angel investors. This year, ACA members nominated 50 companies. Joylux, along with two other companies, will be honored at the national ACA Summit in Chicago on April 25, and one of them will be announced as the final Luis Villalobos Award winner. Joylux, nominated by Seattle’s Alliance of Angels and backed by members of more than a dozen angel groups and funds, is the first female founded FemTech company to receive such honors by the ACA.

Joylux is tackling the taboo topic of women’s intimate health through its portfolio of patent-protected home-use solutions using innovative light and thermal energy under the vSculpt and vFit brands. Launched in 2018, Joylux’s products are sold in the US through 200+ physician offices, online through premium e-tailers such as GOOP, and in eight international markets through distributors. More than 50 percent of women will suffer from intimate health issues such as stress incontinence, vaginal dryness, and sexual function concerns at some point in their lives. Although these problems affect hundreds of millions of women and billions are spent globally every year on products to mask the problems, a lack of access to capital has stifled innovation in this market until now.

“I’m so thankful for our supportive group of angel investors, many of whom are women. Given the sensitive topic and the male-dominated funding world, raising capital is a challenge. We feel fortunate to have aligned ourselves with investors who not only see the enormous growth potential in women’s intimate health, but also want to provide life-changing solutions for women globally. To be a finalist for this prestigious award validates all the hard work our team has been doing,” says Colette Courtion, Joylux Founder and CEO. Among the angel groups supporting Joylux are Seattle Alliance of Angels, Houston Angel Network, BELLE Capital, Seavest, Portfolia, Sophia Fund, Keiretsu, and Golden Seeds.

“We funded Joylux first and foremost because of their experienced team—they have the vision, the sales and marketing expertise, and the grit needed to build a billion-dollar company in this massive, untapped market. Since our investment in 2016, we are impressed with their execution and strong traction. I’m thrilled they will be honored at the ACA conference this year,” says Barbara Boxer, Managing Director, BELLE Capital.
